This cycling tour in the Loire Valley is a great option for families and travelers looking for a variety of ride options as well as the freedom to do other activities. We call it our Star Tour! (Star comes from the pattern made by doing loop trips out and back to the same hotel.) You can go for as few as 3 nights or as long as 7. Our program below is the base package of 3 nights.
Staying in Amboise you have easy access to/from Paris as well as a charming town where you can find a variety of events going on. You have easy access by bike and car to all the great chateaux of the region as well as the great wines and gardens. There is something here for every level of bicycle tourist and non-rider!
Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrive in Amboise, near Tours, and your deluxe 4 star hotel in the center of town. If you need private transfers from Tours/St Pierre rail station we can provide that. Settle in and visit the town, especially the Clos Luce and the chateau. This charming town is a great place to walk around and prepare for your rides. Orientation at 7pm; dinner included after. (D)
Day 2-4/5/6/7 | You have your choice of rides and you can take them in any order of days, or you can do more than 1 in the same day if you feel strong enough. Each day you take one of these rides out and back to your hotel. Each day you have breakfast included with lunch and dinner on your own. The rides:
- Vouvray - 41 km - explore these famous vineyards and taste the varieties.
- Chenonceau - 35 km - visit this famous chateau and its gardens and along the way you ride through wine country.
- Mesland - 40 km - another wine label and an excellent vintage.
- Montlouis - 30 km - wine/vines and along the way visit the Pagode de Chanteloup.
- Montrichard - 51 km - medieval town along the Cher River.
- Chaumont sur Loire - 45km - chateau and famous garden show during specific periods.
Some people will also rent a car so that after their rides, they can see more. With a separate car rental you can also easily reach: Chambord, Blois, Cheverny, Villandry, Azay le Rideau, Chinon, Usse, Langeais, Tours, Loches, and more.
Departure Day your last day you can depart at your leisure after breakfast. (B)
