Day 1 l Arrival Day in Trevi; short warm up ride possible

Arrival Day - travel to the charming town of Trevi in Umbria, near to Perugia. Arrive by train at Trevi and then take a taxi to your hotel. Upon arrival at Trevi station, call Valentina at the hotel and a taxi will be sent.

We will provide an orientation with bike delivery and road book delivery and explanation in late afternoon or early evening. You are on your own for dinner tonight; we suggest a few restaurants within a short walking distance from your hotel. At 6pm, an olive oil tasting is also included, from Valentina, whose family owns 6000 hectares of olive trees and produces an important oil quantity every year. Trevi oils are some of the best! Some foods to try in Italy

Trevi was a theater town back in Roman times and the Teatro Clitunno remains one of the town’s most important gathering places. Remnants of the rings of Mura Romana (Roman Wall) and Mura Medieval (Medieval Wall) still can be found encircling the town. Visit the main piazza and the Church of San Francesco for a step back in time! A short warmup ride is possible.

Day 3 | From Trevi to Torgiano

Day 3 | From Trevi to Torgiano

Again, starting after your breakfast; at your leisure. This route today is a little longer and will take you north west to Torgiano, towards Perugia. The town is strongly connected with wine production; one of the highlights of today is the visit to Lungarotti winery, where you may like to taste the rich red & white wines of the region! In town we suggest to visit the wine and/or olive oil museum, part of the Lungarotti foundation (supplement of 25 euros/person must be booked in advance; includes 3 wines, cheeses and salami) Wine tasting at Lungarotti must be booked in advance and includes food pairings. A must do experience; Mercedes at the winery will be delighted to show you all. Afterward is time to relax back at your hotel around the pool, or in town where you can sample some local wine and cheese. Dinner on your own. Note: the important religious town of Assisi did not make our standard tour. We can add an extra night in Torgiano with a ride to Assisi and back which leaves plenty of time to explore and ride. Please inquire at booking. We also recommend the wine and olive oil museums for visiting; note they are closed 1 day a week, varies with season. Road ride: 64km +292m

Day 5 | Cortona to Pienza via Montepulciano

Day 5 | Cortona to Pienza via Montepulciano

From Cortona you begin your ride with a lovely downhill first and an enjoyable ride through the quiet countryside of Tuscany. You can enjoy some smooth and flat cycling once down on this stage before you make your way up to Montepulciano. Be prepared for breath taking views; but the climbs may also claim some breaths! The views and gorgeous landscape more than make up for the hard work on the climbs. The final stop is Pienza and when you arrive you will forget all about the hills and fall in love with this postcard hill top town. Take a break in Montepulciano and visit the Cafe Poliziano and visit the town before continuing. In Pienza, once called Corsignano, you are in a place that was completely restored by Pope Pio II: Enea Silvio Piccolomini beginning in 1459. The entire village was rebuilt as an ideal Renaissance town and was the beginning of urban planning concepts with the central square surrounded by important buildings (palaces, cathedrals, clock towers). Pienza became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996 due to its cultural significance in urban planning. Be sure to take a walk along the city walls where you will be enchanted by the views and of course, try the 'pici' - homemade pasta with your choice of mixed ingredients; mama mia!! Road ride: 71km +1005m

Day 6 | Pienza Loop to Montalcino

Day 6 | Pienza Loop to Montalcino

Today you have a loop ride and return to Pienza. The route takes you to Montalcino, one of the most famous towns of Tuscany. Once here you can see why this place is special, and not only for the Brunello wine. You will cycle through charming villages and wonderful landscapes, along forests and some of the typical countrysides that make Tuscany so famous. Some sections of this route travel on some busier roads as the only way to connect small country roads without going to gravel strada bianca. Have lunch in Montalcino, then on the way back the ride stops at Bagno Vignoni, a small medieval village famous since the Roman times for its thermal water. You may like to take a time for a relaxing soak (see supplement spa package in Rates section). Also, an option to visit is the Sant'Antimo Abbey, the former Benedictine abbey with history back to the 8th century. Road ride: 81km +1500m
