Day 1 | Arrival to León
Centrally located near the historical area and shopping district, close to many attractions, restaurants, and traditional tapas bars. The NH Plaza Mayor borders the main square in the older part of the city, combining the emblematic beauty of its ancient building and magical surroundings with the comforts and conveniences of 21st century design. Features of the typical Castilian squares, the noble and traditional structures take you back to another time. The central location of the NH Plaza Mayor hotel makes it easy for you to discover León. Major monuments and tourist sites are just a short walk away. The Gothic cathedral is a two-minute walk from the hotel; the Exhibition Center is just five minutes away. Also within walking distance are some of the city’s other main attractions, including the MUSAC Modern Art Museum, Saint Isidoro Basilica, Parador Nacional de San Marcos, and the University of León.
Day 2 | Walk to Villar de Mazarife - 22 km, 5-6 hrs

Day 3 | Walk to Astorga - 29 km, 7 hrs
This exceptional civil building was the Earl of Tepa’s usual residence until its last renovation. The Earls ordered the construction of this building at the end of the 18th century –as inscribed on the main door’s lintel. Right here there was the Convent and the Pilgrims Hospital of Santiago, the most important out of the 17 hospitals that happened to be in the city at that time.
Day 4 | Walk to Rabanal del Camino - 23 km, 6 hrs
Rabanal del Camino
This medieval building dates back to the 17th century and was formerly a pilgrims' hostel. The building was completely refurbished in 1991 using traditional building elements such as slate, stone and wood. It now welcomes visitors to a region that is characterised by its peace and quiet, its wooded countryside and its rural atmosphere. LA POSADA DE GASPAR is classed as a royal inn, a category established by the Regional Government of Castile-Leon.
Day 5 | Walk to Molinaseca - 24 km, 6 hrs
Our Hotel Rural is located in the small, picturesque village of Molinaseca, in El Bierzo (León) fully Camino de Santiago. It is a modern building, made of stone, wood, slate and glass, traditional construction elements of this area that harmonize perfectly with the nature of the environment and provide a harmonious ideal for rest and relaxation. Our proximity to the city of Ponferrada (roughly 7 km) allows us to offer a starting point for excursions and see first hand all the region: The medulla , the Castle of the Knights Templar, The Valley of Silence, Santiago de Peñalba ....
Day 6 & Day 7 | Walk to Cacabelos (23km) & Villafranca del Bierzo (9km)
Villafranca del Bierzo
Posada Plaza Mayor is set in the main square of the Medieval town of Villafranca de Bierzo, in the town centre. It offers functional rooms with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen satellite TV.
Day 8 & Day 9 | Walk to Las Herrerias (19km) & Sabugos (15km)
Centro de Turismo Rural Paraiso del Bierzo is a renovated 19th-century butter factory in a rustic wood and stone building. Heated rooms feature wooden beams and floors. Some rooms have mountain views.
Day 10 | Walk to Triacastela - 16 km, 4 hrs
Splendid seventeenth century manor house located on the "Camino de Santiago", 2 Km off Triacastela and surrounded by a beautiful natural environment. Tradition has it that pilgrims used to pick up limestone here and carry it to Arzúa to grind and finally to Santiago contribuiting to the construction of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It is listed as existing manor from 1634, its first owner was Captain D. Gaspar Quiroga Bank, its heraldic shields form the crests of the side altars of baroque village church.
Day 11 | Walk to Sarria - 19 or 25 km, 5-6 hrs
100 km from Santiago de Compostela, Sarria, the first and closest place for following the PILGRIM ROAD TO SANTIAGO and the Pilgrim’s Way stretching along the FRENCH PILGRIM ROAD. A three star hotel, located in a new building. Installations are modern and functional. Set in a welcoming, pleasant atmosphere, the rooms have all that is required for our guests to feel comfortable and enjoy a well-earned rest. The hotel lies in the centre of the town of Sarria in a privileged spot on the Pilgrim Road to Santiago itself (the French Pilgrim Road), thus making it the best choice for your business or tourist trips in the area.

Duration: 12 days / 11 nights;
Dates: Any date available on request from April through October. This is self-guided touring and offers total freedom of dates - you can choose whatever dates you wish. We can accommodate small parties of 2 persons up to large groups. For your safety we need a minimum of 2 participants per booking, no solo travelers. Custom guided groups are possible for groups of 6 or more; please inquire.
Level 4 - Challenging - rolling to hilly countryside with notable grades and long days on foot. Trips like this may not have every day of the same degree of difficulty for some rest in between. These are for stronger walkers. 20-30km with elevation gain for walking/hiking. This is a self guided tour - see what all that includes!
Arrival & Departure: León can be reached by plane (only domestic flights), train and bus. Take a taxi on your own to your first hotel. The tour concludes in Sarria. Sarria is served by train and bus. Travelers can go to Madrid by (take train, only two run daily, to Sarria) or Santiago (take daily bus, only one, by Monbus or via Lugo to Santiago).
