Enjoy the evening in of Spain's most beautiful cities and with so many interesting sights that taking an extra day is a good option to explore everything the city has to offer: the Gothic Cathedral, the Romanesque Basilica Sant Isidro, the Gaudi house "Casa Botines" or simply a culinary walk through the "Barrio Humedo". That's the nickname of the Wet District with more than 100 tapas bars. Locals have a tapa and a drink in one bar and then move on to the next. Overnight in León.

Centrally located near the historical area and shopping district, close to many attractions, restaurants, and traditional tapas bars. The NH Plaza Mayor borders the main square in the older part of the city, combining the emblematic beauty of its ancient building and magical surroundings with the comforts and conveniences of 21st century design. Features of the typical Castilian squares, the noble and traditional structures take you back to another time. History and modernism merge harmoniously to ensure a delightful stay for all our business and tourist travelers. The central location of the NH Plaza Mayor hotel makes it easy for you to discover León. Major monuments and tourist sites are just a short walk away. Day 2 | Walk to Villar de Mazarife - 22 km, 5-6 hrs

This day is easy walking with a long uphill at the start, however it is easy going all day – except on the eyes as you are walking through an industrial area until reaching Virgen del Camino. Again, there are two ways to get to Hospital del Orbigo, we prefer the more peaceful option through Villar de Mazarife and avoid the noisy N120 highway. Overnight in Villar de Mazarife.

Day 5 | Walk to Molinaseca - 25 km, 6 hrs

The first village you will walk through is Foncebadon which was abandoned for many years, however due to the Camino there are now a few residents and a pilgrim hostel. Today is an important day for most pilgrims on which they hope to be lighter, both physically and spiritually. The Cruz del Ferro (1500m) is an iron cross on top of a 5 meter wooden pole. Many pilgrims bring a stone from home to leave with the many thousands of stones (as well as all sorts of pilgrims’ objects) already there. Leaving a stone is the sign of leaving behind a burden, or letting go of something in your life. Continue downhill passing another abandoned village and reach civilization again at El Acebo, the first village in the region El Bierzo. It's a long and steep downhill until reaching Molinaseca. Overnight location in Molinaseca.

Day 7 (9km, 3 hours) Continue walking through vineyards and reach the spiritual capital of El Bierzo, some call the town the “small Compostela” for its importance for the pilgrims in medieval times and the many sights like the Church of Santiago the Apostle. The Northern doorway is called “door of forgiveness”. Those pilgrims unable to continue their way, due to illness, to Compostela are granted the same indulgences as if they had reached their destination in Santiago de Compostela. Day 8 & Day 9 | Walk to Las Herrerias (19km) & Sabugos (17km)

Day 8 (19km, 5 hours). Your last day in León approaching the majestic border pass at O Cebreiro in Galicia but you leave the main climb for tomorrow. The 20km to your hotel are gently uphill and fairly easy going through the valley, though there’s also a more challenging mountain option….Overnight in Las Herrerias.

Day 9 (15km, 4-5 hours). Beautiful Galicia! Hard morning climb to Cebreiro at the border and an important stopping point on the Camino Francés. This isolated spot has been occupied since ancient times, but this tiny village 1,293 meters (4,242 feet) atop the Cebreiro Pass into Galicia owes its fame to the Pilgrim´s Way and the Eucharistic miracle which occurred here in the 14th century. Take some time to rest and try Caldo Gallego (Galician broth) or Pulpo (Octopus) or visit the Pallozas, typical round dwellings with thatched roofs and especially the Church of Santa Maria la Real where the miracle was supposed to have happened. It is strange walking into this little hamlet on top of the hills hearing what sounds like Scottish or Irish music, but is really local Celtic music. Be warned O Cebreiro is a tourist stop for buses and car drivers, an open-air museum which is great to visit but best avoided for an overnight stay. That's why we continue a little further and little off the Camino. You may think you're on top of the world as you descent from here through beautiful green Galician valleys but there are two more climbs before reaching your hotel. Overnight in Sabugos.
