France - Challenge Bike Tour to Alpe d'Huez
A roadie dream trip, this tour is a ride across one of the most challenging and mythical series of Cols made famous by the Tour de France. Starting in Geneva on the French border, you start by climbing and keep on climbing all the way to Alpe d"Huez, with of course some screaming descents in between and one picturesque French mountain town after another to add charm to the effort. This trip is challenging and is best done in the lightly supported format we offer here, but it can be available on a self guided basis for a minimum of 4 persons on 2 dates only. Either guided or self guided, this program is only for the strongest of cyclists with a clean bill of health. The riding is not so much about the daily mileage as it is about the elevation gain and saddle time climbing. Saying all that, this is a "bucket list" trip that will fulfill all your Tour de France dreams and fantasies changing forever your view of Le Tour when you watch the pros on the same roads! Fresh air, friendly villagers, and robust Alpine cuisine will restore you between the rides. Do you have the legs to climb some of France's most famous cols: Colombiere, Aravis, Saisies, Madeleine, Telegraphe, Galibier, and Alpe d'Huez?!
Note that this tour can also be organized for cycling clubs and private groups on a request basis. For these, we will tailor the itinerary and provide appropriate support based on the group's fitness level. This tour can also be combined with some of the cyclo-sportives and gran fondo in this region such as La Marmotte or l'Etape du Tour.

DAY 4 | Albertville to Valloire (106 km)

Another classic day! You’ll conquer Col de la Madeleine; one of the most mythic and classic mountain passes featured in the Tour de France. The top culminates at an impressive 2,000 m or 6,000 ft, the highest so far… until tomorrow! The northern side is a very enjoyable, long and steady climb that has its rewards — an unobstructed panoramic view of the nearby mountains. Make sure you enjoy it while at the top… sightseeing might be the last thing on your mind when barreling down the twisty 20-km downhill to the Maurienne Valley. After a flat section when you reach the base of the valley, you’ll ascend the easy Col du Télégraphe (1,566 m or 4,700 ft.) and reach the beautiful resort of Valloire.
