Sukantara Luxury Resort and Spa

T.Maeram, A.Mae Rim

Sukantara Luxury Resort and SpaFrom its source at a nearby waterfall named “Taad Yao” by local residents, the cascade gently tumbles down several tiers of large boulders within the resort. The name of the resort is derived from the words “su”, which means beautiful or good, and “kantara”, which translates to “a multi-tiered waterfall.” For a world class resort through which a waterfall gently flows, there is no more fitting title than Sukantara Cascade Resort & Spa. Sukantara Cascade Resort & Spa is a boutique resort that oozes peace, warmth and coziness. It was founded in 2004 by Khun Somporn Sugunasil, a former executive at one of the top two banks in Thailand. As a local from Chiang Mai, an innate appreciation of nature stayed with him from birth and where the resort now stands was formerly his private residence. This small boutique resort is designed to leave a minimal footprint on the landscape and conserve as many trees as possible. As a result, the guest rooms and suites are nestled in and around existing trees and surrounding foliage. All 16 rooms and suites of the resort are designed incorporate the essences of unique Lanna art and culture. By the same time, cultural retreat can hardly be considered authentic without Lanna charming service from resort’s local Chiang Mai and Karen staff.

Day 7: Mae Rim to Chiang Mai (cycling distance: up to 30 km)

Day 7: Mae Rim to Chiang Mai (cycling distance: up to 30 km)

Time to explore Mae Rim! Start riding right from the resort on the hillside roads, including a few easy climbs. As we leave the green lush (seasonal) areas behind and start moving closer to more populated areas we get a good glimpse of Chiang Mai “suburbs”, a less travelled area of Chiang Mai where the new blends with the old. By the Mae Sa canal we find the temple Wat Pa Darapirom. What better than a coffee or soft drink after visiting the temple, drop a local coffee shop for a freshly brewed organically grown coffee of your choice. Visit the royal initiated project of the King and learn about sufficiency economy. The Sufficiency Economy is a philosophy developed by King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand through his royal remarks over the past three decades. Thailand values this new economics philosophy as a practical tool to effectively manage capitalism in a way that aligns and engages it with social sustainable development. Transfer to Huay Tung Tao Lake for lunch before heading back to hotel in Chiang Mai. Breakfast and lunch included
