Day 1: Arrive Siem Reap (Cycling distance: Up to 25km)

This morning arrive at Siem Reap International Airport. Our guide will be waiting for us just outside. We’ll get fitted to the bikes, and then begin our cycling journey to the famous Angkor Wat. We’ll cycle away from the city and take back roads and quiet paths to the ancient city of Angkor Thom. This was the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. An eight meter high wall draws a perfect square around the city ruin. Enter through the ancient East Gate. On each side of the entrance path a row of fifty-four gods and demons hold the sacred Naga snake of Hindu lore. From here, continue to Bayon Temple in the exact center of the city. This 12th century masterpiece is a study in grandeur and is well-known for its fifty-four towers with enigmatic faces representing the fifty-four provinces of the Great Khmer Empire. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are also must-visits as they are both known for their intricate bas-reliefs. Return later to the famous Angkor Wat. Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing Mount Meru, the home of the gods. Inside the temple, the walls are covered with stone carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II fought during his reign. Angkor Wat is well known for the more than 2,000 Apsara dancers decorating the temple. Construction is thought to have taken around thirty years of intensive labor. Today, Angkor Wat is figured on Cambodia's national flag as the temple symbolizes the soul of the Khmer people. Lunch and dinner included today.

Day 2: Siem Reap (cycling distance up to 45km)

After breakfast this morning, we’ll meet with the guides and prepare for our journey through the jungles of Angkor. We begin with a visit to Prasat Kravan, a unique brick temple in the Angkor Complex. Our next stop is a stark contrastto the first: Ta Prohm temple (a setting of one of the Tomb Raider films), built in the mid-12th to early 13th centuries. Ta Prohm is unique in that it has been left largely as it was found: overgrown by jungle, trees and vines, with many parts of the temple crumbling to the ground. This makes Ta Prohm one of the most picturesque and memorable of the Angkor temples. The next stop on the grand circuit today is the beautiful temple of Pre Roup. Thi beautiful temple lies at the edge of an ancient Khmer reservoir. We’ll cycle onward from here, passing several temples as we go. If there is time, we can stop and explore each one. The final stop on today’s tour is the gorgeous Preah Kahn sitting at the outskirts of Angkor Thom. Once we finish here we’ll cycle past a few familiar temples from yesterday’s excursion, before returning to the city. We’ll say goodbye to our guide and driver this evening. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Day 3: Siem Reap to Tonle Sap (cycling up to 30km)

After breakfast this morning we’ll begin with a ride to Tonle Sap. Today will be memorable as you pass through the many small villages that skirt the city of Siem Reap. Enjoy the pleasant atmosphere and the sound of the breeze in the trees. Out here, the children are often eager to practice a little bit of English and will shout hellos as we pass by. We'll board a boat this morning, and carry over water to Kampong Phluk, just one of many floating villages in the area. Here, the people have learned to adapt to the amazing rise and fall of Tonle Sap (up to 9 meters throughout the year in some areas!). We’ll stop at a local home and enjoy a packed lunch before returning back to where we started. On the way back we’ll stop at the Roluos Group, a series of Pre-Angkor temples about fifteen kilometers east of Siem Reap. We can stop here and get a good feel for what country-life is like. At the temples as well, we can see clear differences and similarities between those at Angkor Wat, which makes this group of temples very interesting. In dry season, when the water is too low to traverse by boat, we will instead cycle to Roluos and then the temple of Chau Srei Vibol, a ruins that is often skipped by most visitors to Siem Reap. From here we can choose to cycle back to town or transfer back by vehicle. Breakfast and lunch included.

If you are only doing a 2 night stay, then today is your departure day. You can return to Siem Reap airport on your own, via taxi transfer at your leisure after breakfast.

Day 4: Siem Reap to Beng Melea (cycling up to 65km)

We’ll transfer this morning to the edge of town and begin cycling toward the ancient ruins of Beng Melea. Along the way we’ll pass through the typical Cambodian countryside filled with palm trees, rice fields, and happy children waving and shouting hello as you pass by. A portion of this cycling travels some stretches of local highway, though traffic should not be heavy. Undiscovered and untouched for centuries, Beng Mealea has only recently been made accessible and remains unrestored. Similar in ways to Tah Prohm of Angkor, but the style of this temples is remarkable different than that of its distance cousin. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.
