A Taste of Catalonia Cycling Tour
You will enjoy a great variety of landscapes, from Camprodon to the Mediterranean Sea cycling through areas of forest in the upper reaches of the river, crops in the plain area and rice fields and marshes near the sea. From the cultural point of view is very interesting for the architecture-related to the river Ter such as old industrial settlements, bridges, dams, sluices, canals, windmills, old sinks, etc…You will also visit towns of great cultural interest, such as Sant Joan de les Abadesses with their magnificent Romanesque monasteries, the city of Girona with its old center, the important Jewish quarter and the historic center.

Day 2 | Ride to the Volcanoes (40km)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Camprodon where the bike trail starts. You will start your descent following the local road to Sant Joan de les Abadesses. Then continue up the Hill of Capsacosta (1020m), the highest hill you will have to climb during this trip. Afterwards, go downhill all the way to Olot through the forest and old volcanoes. Dinner on your own.

Ride from Olot to Girona along the Greenway (old railway), visiting the beautiful valley of La Vall d'en Bas, known as the “Catalan Switzerland”, with its stunning scenery and typical villages such as Sant Privat d'en Bas and Hostalets d'en Bas. After the “Coll d’en Bas” (620 m) you will follow the Burgent river valley to La Cellera, where you reconnect with the Ter River, which continues to Girona. Stay in the heart of Old Town Girona, and maybe have dinner on your own in Las Ramblas.

Day 4 | Ride along Costa Brava and the Mediterranean (62km)

The route goes from Girona to the coast, following the ancient railway called "El Carrilet". It means 40 km on an old railway conditioned only for pedestrians and bikers. You will reach Sant Feliu, with its wonderful seaport and a great cultural and historical interest. Accommodation in front of the sea, at the interesting beach of Sant Pol. Dinner on your own.

Day 5 | Ride along the coastline and medieval villages (42km)

Today’s itinerary takes you along the coast to Calella following the Palamós Bay. You can visit the most important villages in the area: Platja d´Aro and Palamós with its interesting fishing port and its exquisite fishes. You will have also the opportunity to visit the old fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, where you can find nice restaurants to eat. Then, you can continue to the beautiful medieval villages, like Peratallada or Pals and you will pass across a big variety of landscapes to arrive at the fantastic hotel in Torroella de Montgrí. Tasting dinner included at the hotel.

Continue along the coastline of the Costa Brava, and pass through the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà (Empordà Marshes). , crossing some vineyards along the way. The Natural Park of Aiguamolls del Empordà is one of the most well-known and emblematic of Catalonia, as its creation in 1983 was the consequence of a long and intense defense campaign initiated in 1976 to stop an urbanization project intending to build a residential marina for 60,000 persons in the lagoon system located between the mouths of the Muga and Fluvià rivers. You’ll arrive in Castelló d’Empúries where you can stop for a nice lunch. In the afternoon, continue to the wine and olive oil region of Empordà. You will start crossing vineyards and olive fields until to arrive to Mas Vivent, your charming hotel for the next 2 nights. Dinner included at the hotel.

Your last ride will take you to Figueres between forests, vineyards and different growing fields. When you arrive in Figueres, you can stroll calmly in the historical center and you must not miss the visit to the Dalí Theatre-Museum, the largest surrealist object in the world. Then continue to Vilabertran, where you will find the Romanesque ensemble of the Canónica de Vilabertran. From Vilabertran head to Peralada where you can walk in its old center and visit the Peralada Castle. Wine tasting at the local winery. Return to Vilamaniscle. Dinner at the hotel included.

Level 3 - Moderate - rolling countryside with some hills and some unpaved, quiet routes. Some unpaved sections are gravel and rocky. This is a self guided tour - see what all that includes!

Low season rates apply outside of High Season which is from June to September.
This is a hybrid tour, which is preferred on this tour because of some unpaved bike paths that road bikes cannot use; these bike paths are well traveled by cyclists and avoid car traffic.
