Glenwood Springs to Snowmass

As yesterday was mostly downhill, today is mostly uphill but in a very gradual manner. We recommend the peace of the bike path from Glenwood that continues all the way to Aspen, but you will have options to ride alongside and then break off to climb up to the thriving summer town of Snowmass Village where you will stay for the night. Many events take place in Snowmass during the summer including Thursday night concerts. If you can plan stay to be there on Thursday night, you will find a fun loving outdoor crowd in an ambiance perfect after a day on the bike. The ride from Glenwood passes through Carbondale, Basalt, Woody Creek, and then uphill to Snowmass. Stops in these towns are worthwhile including the famous Woody Creek Tavern. Night on your own in Snowmass Village. Ride Distance: 50 miles; +4898 / - 2139ft

Overview Map

Maroon Bells & Ashcroft Loop

Big day of climbing and spectacular scenery. This is possibly the most scenic stage you will have during your trip. Starting out of Snowmass Village you will have a challenging warm-up ride then descent down to Aspen and immediately turn uphill to the Maroon Bells. Prepare to ride uphill among the most scenic of routes that is closed to private vehicles during summer from 8am-5pm. Wildlife siting such as moose are common. Once at the end of the road you arrive at the most photographed spot in North America, the Maroon Bells Lake at the foot of the Bells – peaks going up over 14,000 ft! Return down the same way and then get some more miles up to Ashcroft and then back down into Aspen. We recommend a stop in town before you return back to Snowmass Village for the evening; don’t forget that uphill finish! Celebrate tonight in the Village at one of the local watering holes or maybe take in the rodeo! Ride Distance: 61 miles; +5339 / - 5313. Shorter rides possible and return transfer from Aspen to avoid last climb to Snowmass possible.

Bike rental options for this tour:
This is a road bike tour, even though a large part of the riding is on bike paths. Options for going off path exist and you will see the majority of users are on road bikes. The distances with the ups and downs will be better accomplished on a road bike leaving you less exhausted and ready to enjoy the remaining time in your day in these fun mountain towns. Note models may change slightly for 2018.

Pinarello Gan S: outfitted with Ultegra componentry, this is a slightly less rigid frame, thanks to a new type of high-strength carbon, which is slightly less stiff. The bike is also more forgiving for long days in the saddle. A recreational rider will appreciate the balance between Pinarello performance and a little more comfort. The Mavic Ksyrium Equipe wheels are as high of quality a wheel as you will find on a bike in this price range and the integrated ONDA fork more than meet the needs of most riders. Pinarello Gan S specs

Pinarello Dogma F10: ultimate in a road bike machine and is the bike used by the venerable Sky Team. Dogma F10 specs
