Day 6 | Nimes to Arles (58km)

From Nîmes, you will head south and enter the Camargue territory on the Rhône River Delta. This part of France is very special: humid lands between earth and sea. The land levels out dramatically and becomes marshy. In peak summer it can be buggy - so plan mosquito spray. This place is great for bird watching, with over 400 species, including the Pink Flamingo. You may also pass farms where bulls and white horses are raised and allowed to roam. You will soon leave the marsh and end your day with a dramatic arrival in the vibrant town of Arles. In Arles you will discover a rich heritage of roman buildings: Amphitheatre, Arenas; and here Vincent Van Gogh lived and painted. Dinner out on your own.
