This tour starts in Amboise, an important cultural town with both a castle and historical sites. The cycling will take you to chateaux that are visiting such as Chenonceau and Azay le Rideau, and also the kind you stay in such as Chateau d'Artigny - one of the most famous in the whole of France. Arrival in Amboise, charming town on the Loire River. Take the time to walk in the beautiful streets of the town or visit the Royal Castle of Amboise. Today’s chateau was constructed upon the order of Kings Charles 8th, Louis 12th and Francis 1st between the 15th and 16th centuries. This chateau was one of the first royal residences, with which the king introduced the Italian taste in the Loire Valley. Full of history, the site includes an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture.

Getting to Amboise: trains from Paris go to Amboise from Gare Austerlitz, and fast TGV trains to St Pierre des Corps nearby; and from where you can take a taxi to Amboise.

You leave Amboise and ride on very gentle secondary roads: small villages, fields and forest will be on your way to the Castle of Chenonceaux. Property of the Crown, then royal residence, Chenonceau Castle is an exceptional site not only because of its original design, the richness of its collections, its furniture and its decorations, but also because of its destiny, since it was loved, administrated and protected by women, who were all extraordinary and who, for the most part have marked history. You ride back to Amboise on very quiet roads. In Amboise, you can visit Château du Clos Lucé. In 1516, King Francis I and Louise de Savoie invite Leonardo da Vinci in this castle. King François I, passionate by Leonardo da Vinci’s talent, names him “ Premier Painter and Engineer and Architect of the King". In the castle of the Clos Lucé, Leonardo da Vinci was very prolific. In his working cabinet, he drew the construction plans of a magnificent palace and of the ideal city of Romorantin, that was to welcome the Court. In Leonardo's codex, one can discover a series of studies, plans and drawings representing this amazing project. 55-70km. (B)

Then From the little roads parallel to the Loire, you have a nice view on the wild sides of the Loire river. Passing among fields you will arrive to the Sleeping Beauty’s castle, in Ussé. Then you cycle up to Chinon dominated by the ruins of the castle of Charles the VIIth. During the 12th century, the king Henry the 2nd of England fell in love with this beautiful town, located on the side of the river Vienne. (B)

Dates - This tour departs any Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, subject to hotel availability, April-October 15.
Level - Level is moderate+ (3+) This tour can be somewhat challenging due to longer average ride distances; we recommend road bikes. The terrain is flat to modestly rolling.

Need to Know:
- The terrain is rolling countryside, and very picturesque. Weather in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall can be wet and cold.
- Summer months are the best time through September. Countryside routes are quiet but at the castles you will find crowds of visitors. Entrance fees not included.
- Arrival city is Amboise, 2 hours from Paris by train, and departure city Chinon/Tours then to Paris.
