The city recalls days gone by of other famous capitals like Prague or Vienna. Slovenia is catching on with big travel media; so don't wait to visit! Known as being "green", this mostly refers to the various shades of green found in the natural environment; from green grasses, to forests but also the people's commitment to preserving their natural assets. Slovenia also happens to have a very outdoors and active culture. Being a small country it is easy for people to find skiing in the high mountains of the Slovenian Alpes, as well as trekking, hiking, canyoneering, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, and of course; cycling! In this tour we have once again tapped expert local knowledge to bring out the best: quiet routes, scenic towns, excellent hotels, extraordinary beauty, and local culture from country village to big towns; Slovenia won't stay a secret for long!

Day 2 | Kranjska Gora – Bled lake (40km); +340m / -670m

Start your day with a delicous breakfast of organic produce. Home made honey and jams from local growers combine with fresh bread, eggs, and cheese all from farms around the hotel. Once you are ready to ride, you will be pleased to start out on a bike path that runs down into the town of Kranjska Gora, the ski resort town where Bode Miller won a couple Alpine races. Continue riding along the Spik mountain range; and then comes one of the highlights of today in the isolated Valley of Radovna, a marvel for anybody in love with nature, with blueberries hidden in the green meadows, herds of cows grazing and cold streams gurgling. Finish the day by the fairy-tale Lake Bled where the bell tower of a medieval church rises proudly from a tiny islet in the midst of the lake guarded by the castle on the cliffs. Due to its picture postcard perfection Bled is inevitably a place for an inquisitive eye. Try the famous Kremsnita cake at one of the local cafes after your ride! Day 5 | Lake Bohinj to Kobarid - (32-57km) +370m/-670

Day 5 | Lake Bohinj to Kobarid - (32-57km) +370m/-670

Avoiding the highest Slovenian mountain pass you shall cross the Alps underground. Catch a 15-min train ride to the western side of the Julian Alps where you are enclosed by the gorge of the turquoise river Soca which is considered to be one of the most wild and attractive rivers in Europe. This is the western most part of Triglav national park where the battles of WWI took place, and are vividly described in Ernest Hemingway's novel: "A Farewell to Arms". During WWI all of this area was playing an important role as a supply route for the Isonzo front. Further down the valley we stay the night at a delightful Villa Franko where you can indulge yourself in gourmet extravaganza; all under the watchful eye of one of the best Slovenian chefs Ana Ros. (see the video below in Imagery). Accommodation in Kobarid.(B) Note, you don't have to eat dinner here, but you should! Ana will be a 2 star Michelin star chef soon, so fixed price menus are incredible and will make for a wonderful evening! Two options exist for dining: Long Tasting Menu 83.5 euros, or Short Tasting Menu at 63.5 euros. Note: Chef Ana will soon appear on Netflix Chef's Table!

Shorter Ride option available by traveling longer on the train; 32km.

Hotel Vander Urbani Resort

Ljubljana

Hotel Vander Urbani ResortDon't expect a typical hotel façade or a glass lobby where you can exit from your car. You are in the old town, which is sensitive to traffic. Vander urbani resort is four old town houses in a terrace nestling under Castle Hill on the banks of the River Ljubljanica. From the outside, they look like the other town houses in the old city, but they have been intricately re-designed with a contemporary passion.

Day 8 | Ljubljana - Departure

After breakfast, the tour is officially finished and you can check out on your own. We can arrange extra nights, onward travel planning, or airport transfers if needed. (B)

The Slovenian capital has become one of the hippest cities in Europe. It is a reminiscent of Prague - without the crowds. It is so small you can explore most of the town´s sights on foot and yet so cosmopolitan you can hear variety of languages walking along lovely Ljubljanica river. Lively with bars, cafes and art galleries the green city of Ljubljana is a great hideout from big and crowded European capitals.
