Day 1 | Amboise

Your Trail to Table adventure through the Loire Valley begins along the banks of the Loire River itself, in the town of Amboise. You'll meet your guide, check into your hotel, and have a welcome orientation with the group to review the program for your days ahead. Next comes your first true taste of the Loire Valley with a visit to a local chocolate factory. After a tour and demonstration of chocolate-making techniques, you'll be rewarded for your patience with a tasting of a variety of their products.

Located at the edge of the Loire and at the foot of the Royal Castle of Amboise, homeland of Leonardo da Vinci, the hotel Le Choiseul is a charming house typically from Tours built in 18th century. The hotel enjoys an exceptional location in the heart of the Valley of Loire castles. 28 rooms of 5 different categories 28 rooms classified into 5 categories located in the three residences which make up Le Choiseul: the Maison de l'Ermite, the Maison du Duc and the Maison de l'Apothicaire. Three residences of the 15th and 17th centuries coexist harmoniously to form the Choiseul: the Hermit House, the House of Duke and the House Apothecary. La Maison de l'Ermite House of the Hermit is named François de Paule, Calabrian hermit came to Amboise on the orders of Pope Sixtus IV to respond to the wishes of King Louis XI seriously ill and imploring the blessings of the holy man. François de Paule gathered his new disciples in the "Couvent des Minimes" d'Amboise. The current house was built on the foundations of the former convent. La Maison du Duc La Maison du Duc is so named because it was offered to Etienne François Duc de Choiseul by King Louis XV to XVIII century. Later he became rich and important, Minister of Finance and armies, and he had built a "little Versailles " a few miles away : Château de Chanteloup. House Apothecary In this house Jehan Gastignon, herbalist Charles VII and Francis I prepared creams and ointments for the ladies of the court. The king offered him a large part of the property including cellars dug into the hillside in exchange for his services. Troglodyte cave (Caesar's Granaries) These granaries dug into the hillside include three rooms with impressive dimensions: one of them measuring 90 meters in length! There are also 4 silos 4 meters in diameter, double wall, used to store wheat. Until the French Revolution, these places were tithe barns. The tenth crop was piled there before being paid to the church or to the lords.

Day 2 | Amboise to Chenonceaux (35 km + 6 km canoe)

Today begins with a visit to the Château du Clos Lucé, a beautiful estate and gardens where Leonardo de Vinci resided at the invitation of King Francis I at the end of his life. You'll then depart for a short bike ride to the charming village of Civray de Touraine. You'll gain an appreciation for several local specialties through today's lunch spread before collecting your canoe for a leisurely paddle along the Cher. You'll reach the famous Chenonceaux Castle built over the river and float right through its arches! Your bike will await you at the end of your canoe trip for your return ride to Amboise.

Day 3 | Amboise to Montlouis (25 km)

Stretch your legs this morning with a gentle bike ride through the vineyards surrounding the village of Montlouis, where you'll take a break to tour the cellar of a local wine collector and savor a tasting of wines from Vouvay and Montlouis. Next it's back on the bikes and a ride to magnificent Chateau de la Bourdaisière, where you'll wine and dine for lunch. In the afternoon, you'll enjoy a cooking class at the castle to learn the techniques and flavors of traditional local dishes. The castle hosts a tomato festival each year and grows hundreds of varieties, so juicy tomatoes are sure to be part of the class menu!

Day 4 | Montlouis - Tours - Villandry (40 km)

Start the day with a transfer to Montbazon, where you'll start today's bike ride along the meandering Indre river. Your destination is Azay le Rideau, a château built on an island rising right out of the middle of the river! Take time to explore the château before returning to your bike for a ride to the next charming village of Brehémont, situated on the Loire. From here, your ride follows the Loire all the way to Château de Villandry, where you'll meander the sprawling formal gardens before being transferred to Chinon. This evening, savor an apéritif at the impressive Château de Marcay with wine and charcuterie specialities.

Day 5 | Chinon Loop (30 km)

Start the day with a visit to le Vazereau Fromagerie in Chinon to learn how the typical tangy goat cheese of this region is produced. Then you're on to discover the long and storied history of Fontevraud Abbey, home of a religious order begun in the year 1101 and now home to a cultural center. The abbey also boasts a Michelin-starred restaurant, where you'll dine for lunch. Following an exquisite meal, you'll take a step back in time on your tour of a family-run factory producing artisinal soaps. The afternoon concludes with a bike ride back to Chinon.
