Day 3 | Ride to Zuheros (54 km)

From Priego you are riding to Carcabuey on an old disused road. Heading along a little country road past the village of Algar, you then climb to the Gaena mountain pass. From there you have a long and pronounced descent to the splendid town of Cabra. A picturesque route along the foot of the mountains takes us to the compact but attractive village of Zuheros. The village itself is at a higher level than the old railway line, but the climb is rewarded by the chance to take a stroll around the streets of Zuheros, especially in spring when the flowers are in bloom. From the town square there is an excellent view down to our Greenway, the only flat ground in a mountainous terrain. Don't miss the Zuheros bridge: a famed architectural metal structure sweeping the Arroyo Bailon River in a majestic curve. Just 2 km before Zuheros you will sleep in a charming 4 star hotel, a beautiful renovated land house, a former olive farm! Cumulative height difference: about 400-450 meters

Day 4 | Ride to Alcala la Real (60 km; or 30 km)

Today you bid farewell to the Subbetica Mountains, to immerse yourselves in the countryside of Jaén, riding along the comfortable "Vía Verde" (old railway line). After passing the station in Alcaudete, you continue uphill, and the more bumpy trails and imposing watchtowers above remind you that you are entering Nasrid territory. All of a sudden you encounter the majestic "La Mota" fortress defending the town of Alcala. As this is a long stage with lots of uphill (up to 700 meters), we offer the possibility to take a taxi half way to the village Alcaudete! Then you only cycle 30 km (25 km almost flat and 5 km with an uphill of 300 meters), just let us know at least the day before and we'll arrange it!

Once passed Casillas de Mures, the landscape changes and you head towards Tózar, just before the final bastion of the Nasrid kingdom, Moclín. This village awaits you in the distance beneath the watchful eye of its imposing castle. Cumulative height difference: 515 meters

"We completely LOVED our Pure Adventures cycling trip. The routes were fabulous -- gorgeous bike paths and quiet back roads through amazing scenery, medieval villages and beautiful Mediterranean coast beaches. And after a day of cycling, we pull into a lovely hotel with a great dinner menu as part of the deal. Perfect. Costa Brava is a cyclists dream and a food lover's paradise. We will definitely do another trip with Pure Adventures."

"The trip was the most relaxing time I've spent in 20 years. I learned how to slow down. There were no TVs, radios, phones, internet or clocks. Just listening to the birds chatting outside the window was the music for the evening. We spent a lot of time speaking Spanish (and Catalan) while getting to know the hosts and other B & B world travelers. Thanks for a memorable vacation!" - Mark M.

"The tour was GREAT, every day was like a treasure hunt, great new places to discover! the food, of course was unbelievable, and the best meals we had were at little places we discovered along the way for lunch, mostly three star cafes. the scenery was also unbelievable, the coast is great and the foothills were also fun and beautiful."
    - Dan. G

"We had a great experience. Terrific support and info from Maggie, Saskia and Dave."
    - Al B.

    "
Your itinerary was really excellent and we all felt we got a true feeling for Northern Spain--the interior with the medieval villages and then the costa brava was wonderful."
    - Jan T.

"We had a fantastic time and absolutely loved our trip. It will be a long time until we could ever go again, but we are already recommending the trip to our friends and family.!"
    - Nancy A.

"Everything went really well. Was very impressed with Bo, phoned up a few times to make sure everything was working well. There was absolutely no problems with the equipment, and we only got lost a couple of times.... Hotels were fabulous, and so was the food."
