This tour is really a tour of the Istrian Peninsula - the part that is found in Croatia! The Istrian Peninsula actually crosses the border of Italy and Slovenia and that is why we start this tour with an easy arrival in Venice or Ljublijana in Slovenia. The cycling all takes place in Croatia and is a combination of interior countryside and Adriatic seaside. Istria is one of Croatia's best places; the inland area resembles Tuscany and the coast boasts great medieval towns and very good beaches. It is also a place for olive oil, wine, and truffles, not to mention excellent home made pasta!
The cycling is moderate in difficulty, and just about any ride day can be made longer. Average daily rides are 58km with an average elevation gain of about 390 meters (+1200ft) Weather is a typical Mediterranean climate; warm temperatures througout most of the year with higher temps in peak summer. This part of Croatia is excellent for cycling versus further south where the very steep islands and busy routes are less appealing and it is off the newlyl beaten trail into Croatia. Here you can enjoy the best of Croatia with lots of influence from Italy and Slovenia nearby. 3 Towns to Visit in Istria | Learn more about Croatia

Buje – Groznjan – Motovun - 37 km, Altitude gain: 520 m
MEETING 8am - you will meet your Pure Adventures representative at your hotel from last night for transfer to Istria. You will have an orientation, bike set up at the drop point prior to the ride from Buje, when you start cycling. Buje is a typical Istrian medieval town and nice place to start. The ride towards Groznjan village takes you to scarce villages with archaic churches and offer some of the best views that can easily make you think you are somewhere in Tuscany. We stop in Groznjan, small old walled renaissantown on a hill, dated back to the beginning of the past millennium. It is known as a city of artists as almost every door leads to art studio or gallery. Todays final destination is city of Motovun situated on the top of the hill and a tough climb.
Each summer Motovun hosts international film festival and attracts artists from all around the world. The Motovun forest creates favorable environment where truffles, a mysterious and unique
mushroom, completely hidden underground, is found. Why not start a tour with a typical Istrian dinner? (on your own - suggestions provided).

wineries and olive oil producers.
