Day 1 | Arrive Barcelona, Orientation Meeting, City Bike Tour

This tour starts any Tuesday to Saturday. We changed this trip for 2019 to include this night in Barcelona so that we can take all the time needed for orientation and give you time to rest and explore. We also include a short city bike tour today after orientation! Orientation is at 4:30 pm at our bike shop in central Barcelona over a 'welcome' glass of wine. Then you'll have some free time to have dinner on your own this night.

About the guided city bike tour:
STARTS at 10:30 am from the shop. Approximately 4 hours; the goal is to see iconic Barcelona riding mostly in bike lanes or low traffic streets. Ride Passeig de Gracia til Placa Cataluyna to enjoy modernist architecture. See the oldest parts of the city, the Gothic quarter, Arch of Triumph, Ciutadella Park, Fisherman's quarter and the seashore, Sagrada Familia and finish back at the bike shop. We can adapt the route to customer requests within reason.

Highlights: welcome orientation, city bike tour

Day 6 | Ride to Madremanya - 38 km / 24 miles

The ride to Madremanya takes you back to the interior part of the region, the hilly sections on the western borders at the alluvial plain. This is an eminently agricultural area where you can visit typical villages such as Verges, a medieval village with the remains of its ancient walls. Before reaching your hotel, why not take a short detour to the village of Pubol to have a snack and visit the castle? It was the home to the famous surrealist painter Salvador Dalí and his wife Gala (she is buried at the castle). Dalí bought the castle in 1969 and it has been open to the public since 1996. WINE TASTING Included at Mas Oller: Located in the town of Torrent, in the province of the “Petit Empordà," based out of a 17th Century farmhouse, Mas Oller has 17 hectares of vineyards in production. The three red varieties are Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon and two white varieties are Picapoll and Malvasia de Sitges. The vineyards are located around the house and the grapes are carefully selected in the vineyard before being harvested. They are then transported to the winery in small boxes, where they undergoes a second manual selection. All of the wines have a cold pre-fermentation period to obtain maximum expression of aroma and color. Mas Oller's philosophy is based on the recovery of the wine making tradition of Empordà, with a modern interpretation of the concept of wine. In the Guided Visit: Learn about all the details involved in the wine making process: from the vineyard to the aging room.

We completely LOVED our Pure Adventures cycling trip. The routes were fabulous -- gorgeous bike paths and quiet back roads through amazing scenery, medieval villages and beautiful Mediterranean coast beaches. And after a day of cycling, we pull into a lovely hotel with a great dinner menu as part of the deal. Perfect. Costa Brava is a cyclists dream and a food lover's paradise. We will definitely do another trip with Pure Adventures.

The trip was the most relaxing time I've spent in 20 years. I learned how to slow down. There were no TVs, radios, phones, internet or clocks. Just listening to the birds chatting outside the window was the music for the evening. We spent a lot of time speaking Spanish (and Catalan) while getting to know the hosts and other B & B world travelers. Thanks for a memorable vacation!" - Mark M.

The tour was GREAT, every day was like a treasure hunt, great new places to discover! the food, of course was unbelievable, and the best meals we had were at little places we discovered along the way for lunch, mostly three star cafes. the scenery was also unbelievable, the coast is great and the foothills were also fun and beautiful.
- Dan. G

Your itinerary was really excellent and we all felt we got a true feeling for Northern Spain--the interior with the medieval villages and then the costa brava was wonderful.
- Jan T.
We had a fantastic time and absolutely loved our trip. It will be a long time until we could ever go again, but we are already recommending the trip to our friends and family.!
- Nancy A.
Everything went really well. Was very impressed with Bo, phoned up a few times to make sure everything was working well. There was absolutely no problems with the equipment, and we only got lost a couple of times.... Hotels were fabulous, and so was the food." - Rob C. / Canada
