This trip starts on Thursdays and can be enjoyed from May through October. Arrive in Oxford and check into your hotel, which is located in the heart of the city. Experience the treasures of this beautiful city and stroll through the lovely colleges of the University, with their magnificent architecture and gardens. Day 2 | Oxford to an Oxfordshire Village: 53 km / 33 miles

This morning your host will meet you with your bikes and run through your itinerary before your cycling journey begins. You leave Oxford on a traffic-free route as you head towards the Cotswold village of Woodstock. Here you will find the world heritage site of Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill and now home to the 12th Duke of Marlborough. Back in the saddle, you can then explore true, classic Cotswolds country - twisting lanes leading through pretty villages; tiny bridges crossing gurgling rivers; ancient woodlands and wonderful views. Your welcoming inn for the next 2 nights overlooks a lovely village green.

Day 3 | Circular ride to Chipping Campden: 49 km / 31 miles

Today's route leads you through a string of Cotswold stone hamlets and villages and to the market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, where the Roman Fosse Way now defines the high street. Ride on to the renowned gardens of Hidcote and Kiftsgate for beauty and inspiration. From here, it's a freewheel to the gem of the Cotswolds, the 14th Century honey-colored stone buildings of Chipping Campden, where there are plenty of cozy pubs for a lunch stop. What a perfect day!

Day 4 | An Oxforshire Village to Bibury: 49 km / 31 miles

  You will experience the classic wolds and valleys of the Cotswolds area today, taking in a string of notable towns and villages. Visit Stow on the Wold, known today for its antique shops and formerly as a woolen town, before discovering the idyllic hamlets of the Slaughters and joining the Windrush valley at Bourton on Water. This valley leads you through unspoilt villages to Burford, one of England's prettiest small medieval towns with beautiful Cotswold architecture and a high street to savour. From here you pedal an old Roman road with long vistas to arrive in Bibury, famous for its weavers’ cottages.

Day 5 | Bibury to Lacock: 72 km / 45 miles

Pedal through a timeless landscape today that is utterly charming and leads to the Cotswold capital of Cirencester - important since Roman times and still a delight today. Beyond are some interesting places to stop by and explore. At Highgrove you can enjoy a thirst quencher or coffee at Prince Charles' farm whilst in Tetbury, there's plenty to explore in this lovely old, wool market town. If trees are your thing you can make a short detour to the world renowned and spectacular National Arboretum at Westonbirt. There is also wonderful pottery and close by, a stunning private garden where we may be able to arrange a visit. The most remarkable find of the day is Lacock, where you will spend the next two nights. Dating back to the 13th Century, this charming rural village with a medieval abbey remains untouched by modern development.

Day 6 | Lacock to Bath and Back: 53 km / 33 miles

  This is a fantastic ride to the UNESCO world heritage site of Bath, known for its Georgian architecture and Roman connections. Discover the Roman baths, a fine collection of museums, cobbled courtyards, historic tea rooms and the abbey. Leave Bath along a magnificent canal and take in yet another characterful town at Bradford on Avon. From here there is a short climb as you head back to Lacock. Truly a day to remember!

Dates available: This trip is available to start on Thursdays from the end of March to the end of October.
Level :Fit Level 3 The Cotswolds is a hilly area with consistent, gently rolling hills. You need to have a fairly good fitness level to fully enjoy this trip.

This is self-guided touring and offers total freedom of dates - you can choose whatever dates you wish with a Thursday start. We can accommodate small parties of 2 persons up to small groups. Custom guided groups are possible for groups of 6 or more; please inquire.

Rob McDermott; OXFORD AND COTSWOLDS. Rob has more bikes than Bradley Wiggins! He has been with our local partners for quite a few years - as Operations Manager until he took over this role recently. He knows the routes inside out! Rob will be pleased to meet you at the start of your trip and answer all your questions about the region including some of his favorite stops to recommend. Born and brought up in Oxfordshire, Rob has a huge spirit of adventure and spent a number of years in the RAF where he lived and worked in several far flung locations across the globe. He is a very keen (some would say over keen) cyclist and adores bikes; he is passionate about history and meeting interesting people is what makes him tick. Oxford is where he lives.
