Pedal your way through a postcard! Novia Scotia’s South Shore is an area that has long be revered by artists and photographers alike, and you will soon see why. Imagine sparkling Atlantic coastline dotted with light houses, UNESCO Heritage historical towns, colorful and quaint fishing villages along the sea side, combined with rolling countryside to cycle through. This 6 day, self guided bike tour gives you the opportunity to explore all of this incredible landscape, in way that is safe – away from the crowds – and at your own pace! Enjoy delicious cuisine, world famous to Nova Scotia, such as lobster, oysters and scallops, as well as fresh blueberries and apples. You will also want to try the many local, traditional dishes such as the iconic donair stew, seaweed made dulse, and an Acadian dish called Rappie Pie. This tour offers plenty to delight your senses, with idyllic landscapes that will remain in your memory for years to come. Relax, breathe in the fresh sea air and pedal on; you deserve it!

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival to Halifax & Warm Up Ride: 21 km

Today you arrive to Halifax, where you will be picked-up at the Halifax Airport around noon. If you arrive to Halifax a day earlier, we’ll pick you up at your hotel in Halifax around 1:00 p.m. From here you will be escorted by private van to a local cafe near Hubbards, where we will give you a Welcome Orientation and get you fitted to your bikes. Once situated, you can head out on a 21 km ride on the groomed St. Margaret’s Bay Rails to Trails route. This ride will help you get acquainted with the bicycles and prepare you for the week ahead. Should you need any bike adjustment, or wish for us to install a custom seat or pedals, this is a good time to make it so.

Distance: 21 km / 13 mi
Overnight: Hubbards

Day 2Aspotogan Peninsula: 55 - 75 km

Today you will cycle the beautiful Aspotogan Peninsula! After enjoying a delicious breakfast, you will set off on a quiet route, taking you through quaint fishing villages and secluded beaches. Making your way to Chester, your destination for the evening and a mecca for yachting on the coast, there is plenty of gorgeous scenery along the way. Continue cycling past Chester to Western Shore, where your comfortable accommodations for the evening are located. Weather permitting, plan to enjoy a seaside picnic along the ocean!

Overnight: Western Shore

Day 3Lunenburg: 54 - 70 km

Today, you will leave this ocean-side community to head off the beaten path, pedaling the quiet country roads through Indian Point and Mahone Bay on your way to Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, your home for the next two evenings. First settled in 1753, the town has many historic buildings and homes. Winner of the Communities in Bloom most beautiful small town in Canada, you will quickly understand why. Brightly colored historic homes dot the south shore of Nova Scotia on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean like a nautical postcard from the past. Known historically as a shipbuilding community, it is also home to the famous Bluenose schooner.

Distance: 54-70 km / 34-43 mi
Overnight: Lunenburg

Day 4Blue Rocks: 30 km

After breakfast you will set off on yet another beautiful ride along the coast. Your destination: the quaint fishing community of Blue Rocks. Today’s planned routes are shorter to allow for some time back in Lunenburg, where you will want to visit and explore. For those wanting to get in a few more miles, continue down Second Peninsula Road. This is also a good day to add a wonderful morning of sea kayaking among Mahone Bay’s 350 islands. Please let us know at time of booking, so we can make arrangements to do so.

Overnight: Lunenburg

Day 5White Point Century Ride: 100 km

Today you have the chance to complete a “Canadian Century,” riding to White Point. You will take a scenic ride on one of the last existing cable ferries to LaHave and pick up lunch at the LaHave Bakery for later in the day. After you are done with your rest stop, continue on to Crescent Beach, Mill Village and Liverpool, before settling at your inn for the night. Time permitting, take a stroll down the beach or have a quick dip in the ocean before dinner!

Overnight: White Point

Day 6Departure Day

This morning, enjoy the spectacular setting of your beach-side resort before your van picks you up at 10:00 a.m. for your transfer back to Halifax or the Halifax Airport. The drive will take just under two hours. If you wish to extend your travels, please let us know and we can provide assistance in planning and arrangements!
