After about an hour of sailing, we will turn into the narrow and steep fjords, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain peaks. We will make a stop at Ikateq to look at the historical remnants and ruins of World War II. It was here that the Americans ran an airfield from 1942–47, with the codename of “Bluie East Two.” Continuing on, we arrive in Sermiligaaq Fjord, which means “The Beautiful Glacier Fjord”. Take in the view of two simultaneously calving glaciers, Karale Glacier on your left side and Knud Rasmussen Glacier straight ahead of you. We will go ashore and enjoy lunch here. After about 1-2 hours, we will head back to Tasiilaq. Lunch, warm drinks, and a down cover-up are all included.

Today we start in the harbor in Tasiilaq and sail north along Ammassalik Island, through a breathtaking landscape, passing floating ice that looks like sculptures. After 1 – 2 hours, we will arrive to a small settlement called Tiniteqilaaq, which in Greenlandic, means “the strait that runs dry at low tide.” The settlement has a spectacular view of the Sermilik Fjord (in Greenlandic “Icefjord”) with colossal icebergs. See where the Greenland Ice Shield touches the sky on the horizon. If time allows, take a stroll around the settlement on your own. Then we will continue to Sermilik Fjord, enjoying our lunch with a view of the giant icebergs. Heading south in the Sermilik Fjord, we sail around Ammassalik Island and return to Tasiilaq.
