Throughout your adventure you will notice that the fjords differ very much in geography and landscape. From rugged, barren, windswept islands to lush valleys, high alpine peaks and glaciers, wide fjords with steep and dramatic rock-faces and high waterfalls everywhere you look. Everywhere you find lovely little villages, typical of the fjord “farming fisherman” that live here. On this trip you will visit UNESCO World Heritage sites and experience adventures in Norway as if you were a local! Hiking, kayaking, ferry trips and delicious, fresh cuisine all throughout – the local salmon is incredible! Rogier and his family are originally from the Netherlands but have lived in Norway for many years. They are extremely active adventure enthusiasts and also have a historical sheep farm! You will be welcomed by one of the family, (his children are active in guiding) all with perfect English, and learn all of the best local tips and recommendations. If you’re lucky, you might get to hold one of the little lambs!
Need to Know:
Today you arrive to the center of the former Viking capital, Bergen. Your hotel is centrally located near the harbour so you have access to all of the best sites! Take a stroll this afternoon and explore all that Bergen has to offer: the colorful harbour, the lively fish market, and many narrow and winding streets. Tonight, we recommend having some traditional Norwegian “fish soup,” which is a delicious way to end your day!
Today you will have the morning to further explore Bergen. Visit the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bergen Bryggen, the historic village made up of colorful building and winding alleyways. Or, you can take the Funicular up to Mt Fløyen and get the best view of the city and harbour and perhaps a hike down! This afternoon you will depart for the Altantic coastal cruise. This four hour sightseeing cruise is on a catamaran and offers great scenery throughout. Sit in comfortable seating among the many locals using this boat to as every day transportation from villages along the coast. Have a coffee and a special treat from the cafeteria on board. At Smørhamn you will disembark and be picked up by your hotel host, who will take you quickly to the beautiful fishing village of Kalvåg. We recommend eating dinner here tonight – the chef uses local fresh catches and the cuisine is absolutely wonderful!

After enjoying a delicious breakfast spread, your guide will pick you up for your guided hike, which starts from a beautiful beach along the coast. Take in endless views over the archipelago along the fjord and Atlantic ocean. If you are lucky, you will spot a giant sea eagle! Don’t forget your bathing suit because you will want to go for a swim afterwards, relaxing in the pristine waters and white sandy beach. After your hike you will drive off island and along the Nordfjord, noticing how your landscape changes dramatically. Your guide will take you to the small town of Davik, where you will be welcomed by our local friends at their historic sheep farm and home. If there is time along the way, you may be able to visit the large Vikingship in the Sagastad museum in Nordfjordeid. Later today, you will pick up your rental car.

Today is yours to decide what you do! The landscape offers dramatic scenery with fjords, steep high alpine mountains and glaciers. Choose from the list below or relax. Note: some activities require advance booking.

– Selfguided difficult/technical level hike to Skåla: 1840 masl (6000 ft up and down steep path) summit, 12 km steep path, 8-10 hrs for very well trained mountain hikers only
Highlights: adventure of your choosing!
Today you will drive east towards the Stryn mountain pass and if you are lucky, you might spot a reindeer in this barren alpine area. Wind down 1000m with incredible views over the Geirangerfjord below you and historic mountain farms along the way. Board your boat and hop up top to have the best views of the famous “Seven Sisters Waterfalls.” This UNESCO listed fjord is one of the most spectacular in Norway. Upon arrival in Hellesylt it’s just a quick drive to start your walk on the old postal road, offering amazing views from above into the Geiranger fjord. Next stop is the Norangsdalen valley, with a dramatic landscape of steep rock faces and glaciers. Make a stop at a sparkling lake, where a mountain farm was submerged by water due to a landslide. You can still see some of farm’s walls beneath the lake’s clear surface.

From your hotel in Øye, you have just a short drive along the fjord. Enjoy the Norangsfjord with its steep rock faces, narrow waterfalls, and views of the majestic summit Slogen behind your hotel. Today you have the choice of a kayak tour or a guided hike to Leknesnakken or Saksa. Both start the same and give you a great view over the Norangsfjord. The Saksa hike is steep and is advanced. The Leknesnakken walk takes you also to view the Hjørundfjord and you will walk back another way than you came up. The kayak tour is guided and will take you into the Norangsfjord or Hjørundfjord. This is a really treat, with light paddling in a tranquil setting, immersed in nature. After, take the ferry and drive to Ålesund through the Sunnmøre Alps region, an area with jagged peaks around the fjords.
