Day 1 | Arrival in your 4 star Torino Hotel

  The tour starts in Torino, an Olympic city with much to see. You can easily get here by flying to Milan Malpensa airport and take the 1 hour express coach. You have a deluxe and traditional Italian 4 star hotel in the center of the city shake off the jet lag and begin your Italian experience with the friendly people of Torino. Torino, aka Turin, is the capital of Piedmont and near the source of the Po River, longest river in Italy. It was also the seat of the royal family and the Kingdom of Italy in the late 1800's. The royal palace and other remnants of the former era are a close walk from your hotel. Dinner on your own tonight; we pick you up next morning for orientation and cycling start. If you can, we recommend at least 1 extra night before to leave time to explore this charming city.

Day 2 | Orientation, Bike tour to Saluzzo 57km +349m

  After a generous breakfast, we meet you at the hotel and transfer to our bike shop in Piasco. You will get a personal welcome from Giovanni and his staff and then be on your way for your first ride! Bags will be taken to the hotel in Saluzzo and waiting for you when you arrive.
The ride is into very quite roads between fruits trees. The area around Saluzzo is very famous for kiwi and apple trees and they export it in all over the world. Your ride will pass through Staffarda, where there is an old Gothic Abbey. Back in Saluzzo; for dinner on your own, make sure you try the Bagna Cauda or the Ravioles di Formaggio e Patate dal Med ed il Castelmagno! Seek out the cheese shop of Casa del Parmigiano, one of the best!
Saluzzo: former Roman stronghold and territory of many kingdoms! This is a town that must be explored on foot. The main street is a treasure chest of antique shops, half a day can easily be whiled away in these little shops. See the castle, the Mole di Castiglia. Nearby is the Dominican convent of San Giovanni, dating back to 1466.

  From Saluzzo to La Morra - We’ll pass the border of Langhe Area (From June 2014 a Unesco World Heritage site) ; enjoy the wonderful view over the vineyards. La Morra are the highest hills of Langhe Area. This town is consdered one of the beautiful small villages of Italy. Take a walk in the historic centre and a stop at the viewpoint. La Morra has routes radiating out to the vineyards, the towns of Barolo wines. The Piedmont hazelnuts IGP and the DOG and DOGC wines, to be tasted at the wine bars of the territory. Day 4 | La Morra loop (via Barolo e Fontanafredda) 37km, +640m

  La Morra loop - The ride of today is direct into the Langhe hills: Roddino, Fontanafredda and Barolo. Enjoy the visit in this magic town, very famous for his wine, and maybe a local dish of Tagliatelle with Barolo wine! Some have called Barolo the greatest wine in Italy, and even the King of Wines!! No wonder Piedmont is considered the premier wine region among so many great wine regions! Your ride today is not easy but includes some switchback climbs up to the wine villages, and then absolutely stunning, jaw dropping panoramas that will make all the work more than worth it! Day 5 | La Morra - Cortemilia 45km, +842m

  From La Morra to Cortemilia - The landscape is changing and we enter into the Alta Langa area. Here, around old villages are grown one of the best quality of hazelnuts, used as the base for the famous Gianduia chocolate and in some of the delicious desserts for which the Cucina Piemontese is well-known. Our destination is a Cortemilia, a very nice village in the middle of the vineyards. More of the same, hilly, stunning landscapes, and more of the great red and white stuff at the finish!   In the middle of this loop we’ll find Moncalvo, very popular town for the truffle fest in October and also for their beef. Here you can taste real dishes of the tradition! Back to Acqui Terme, and more time to explore this ancient town. How ancient? Since neolithic times there have been people here! Roman history through middle ages left their impression as well. This is self-guided touring and offers total freedom of dates - you can choose whatever dates you wish. We can accommodate small parties of 2 persons up to large groups.  Local Coordinator: You will get your orientation at our bike shop near Saluzzo on the first ride day. The orientation will get you set up your bikes and cover the navigation and routes ahead. We have a team of people supporting this tour and each of our on site experts will provide support throughout your trip. They live in the region and know it so well!

Trek Emonda S5 Road Bike:
Road bikes are recommended on this tour to make the rolling hills more easily traversed. The Trek Emonda is a great rental for these rolling and hilly routes of Piedmont. Carbon frame, compact crankset with Shimano 105, the bike is light and responsive. Rental Rate: 210 euros. See the Detailed Road Bike Spec Sheet.

Hybrid bike options are new 2017 Trek FX 3 models : Trek Fx 3: aluminum frame; Shimano components, upright handle bar; road wheels with puncture resistant road tires. The hybrids are equipped with bags and carrying capacity. Womens frame. Hybrid Rental Rate: 155 euros.
