Our goal is the rim of Sierra Negra Crater, one of the most remarkable volcanic features in the Galapagos. This active volcano, last erupting in June 2018, boasts a massive, lava-filled caldera stretching over six miles at its widest point. As we explore the crater’s circumference, we’ll be surrounded by stunning vistas and the unique environment formed by millennia of volcanic activity. For those with extra energy, we can continue hiking to Volcan Chico, a secondary crater featuring puffing fumaroles and striking, colorful lava formations that highlight the dramatic forces that created the islands.
In the afternoon, our adventure takes us to Tintoreras Islet by kayak, just a short distance from Puerto Villamil. This wildlife-rich haven is home to white-tipped reef sharks, playful sea lions, graceful marine turtles, and the charismatic Galapagos Penguins. Its turquoise, crystalline waters provide unforgettable wildlife encounters. The islet’s mangrove-surrounded beach is one of the few places where marine iguanas successfully reproduce, offering a rare glimpse of these remarkable creatures in their natural habitat. We have just returned home from our fabulous trip. It exceeded our expectations, by far. The scenery, activities, wildlife, and hotels were all amazing. Our guide did a fantastic job taking care of every detail for us. His knowledge and caring personality made this one of the most special vacations we have ever had. I wouldn’t change one single thing. Thank you for all of your assistance during this very difficult time for all. We look forward to many more adventures with you in the future.
My husband and I are repeat travelers with Pure Adventures. We loved biking in Italy and biking in South Dakota. Our most recent trip with a group of friends to the Galápagos Islands far exceeded our expectations. The islands and the wildlife and nature are spectacular. What made the trip so special was our expert guide. Our trip was specific to us. The food and lodgings were wonderful. I can’t imagine this trip being so special without Pure Adventures. Loren and Mar worked with us as we had to reschedule this trip twice due to COVID. We are already thinking about our next Pure Adventures trip!
We took our family on this trip for the kids’ spring break and it was incredible! The kids (teens!!!) really enjoyed seeing all of the wildlife and learning about the giant tortoises at the research center. Seeing things like sharks and rays, sea tortoises, sea lions, just casually here and there, was really special. Penguins are a must! Activities were fun for the whole family and the guides had a lot of passion and knowledge for what they were doing. We appreciated having the guided experiences but also some time on our own – it was the best of both worlds and worked out well for us. This is the best way to see the Galapagos and our family is really happy with how Pure Adventures took care of all of the details. Everything leading up to the trip and during, was perfect. Once in a life time trip for us – thank you!
