Slovenia Self-Guided Bike Tour: Experience Slovenia in a way like no other – cycle from the Julian Alpes to Slovenia’s Tuscany to the Mediterranean Sea, visiting lakes and cycling alongside gently-flowing rivers. Slovenia is one of Europe’s most exquisite hidden treasures. Thanks to its sustainable tourism, perfectly-preserved landmarks, Michelin-starred restaurants, and world-class wine, Slovenia is emerging as one of the top bucket-list holiday destinations, per recent features in Nat Geo, Forbes, Lonely Planet, and Condé Nast. Anyone who wants a taste of Europe’s natural beauty only needs to visit Slovenia to see how it exceeds all expectations. Known to be the third most forested area in Europe, it is a mixture of heavily forested landscapes juxtaposed with rolling, cultured hills, which creates a country of lush greenery. Among the greenery, the adventuring cyclist will also enjoy staying in Ljubljana, seeing castles, vineyards, lakes, and rivers, that would rival any “top” European destination. One of our most highly-rated destinations, this self-guided bike tour through Slovenia was rated the best trip winner by Active Times in 2014. We really enjoyed our time in Slovenia and we felt that the tour route highlighted the scenery, people, culture and food in a very positive way. Slovenia is a very special place and we really did enjoy all of the different places we visited. The support from your team in Slovenia was excellent and the bikes and equipment were very good. We are now firm supporters of pedal assist e-bikes and would not have been able to do this tour on regular hybrid bikes. The hotels were all good, (especially the air-conditioning in July!), with the stay at Komen a real highlight. The meal we had at Spacapanova Hiša was exceptional as was the service from Ada and Urban. We were discussing that it was probably in the top 5 dinners we have ever had anywhere.
The tour routes were a nice mix between quiet country roads and bike paths with a great variety of scenery as we progressed towards the coast. The navigation was straightforward, and the only real issue we had was on day three when we struggled to find our way at San Floriano, mainly due to our brains being a bit fried in the heat and one of our phones powered off. We really enjoyed the extra days in Piran and spent a lot of our time lounging in the water and wandering around the town.
It was another great trip with Pure Adventures and we really appreciated you putting it together for us.
We had a great trip! We loved the rGPS app. The routes were just the right length and the scenery was beautiful! We really liked being able to avoid, for the most part, the busy roadways. For me the highlights were the winding roads we cycled (ie. Mt Triglav) with some challenging uphills but fantastic downhills. Seeing the Lippizzan stallions was definitely another highlight as was swimming in the Adriatic right outside our hotel in Piran! Crossing the Italian border on numerous occasions and cycling through the fabulous vineyards was amazing! Every day our route took us through different types of terrain and it was all very beautiful!
We did get some rainy days but the sun came out at just the right moment and we were back on track! Next trip I would love to do a longer one with more cycling days and of course, a few rest days in there too. Thanks for a memorable time!! I would definitely do another one!
Traveled with another friends couple, it was a wonderful trip. The team didn’t miss a beat. The logistics were tight and they did everything they said they would do and more! I highly recommend Pure Adventures and cycling in Slovenia.
Communication through “what’s app” was very helpful. Your rep checked in on us daily and our luggage was at each location When we arrived. The accommodations were very good. Food was great. The quality of bikes was good. I can only imagine the creativity involved in planning those routes.
Highlights included spending time with our friends. The mtn country around Lake Bled was great. Cycling the quiet roads and trails during peak summer was also a treat. The small towns of Slovenia are quaint. Motovun was a highlight as well.
Overall, I would recommend this bike trip ! The distances were good, the scenery, food, people were great.
We had a FANTASTIC trip!! fell in love with Slovenia and how the landscape changed so quickly before our eyes every day! Your local team is the best and went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly…the only thing we truly had to do was ride, eat and drink, LOL! We missed one day of riding, there was a bad storm overnight in Bohinj that downed trees and closed down the train. Your team quickly arranged for us to have a ride directly to our next hotel and suggested some riding we could do at the new place, which we did, but we should’ve just stayed in and drank more wine! My favorite part was arriving at the ocean after all the riding days, for my husband, maybe the cave near Lipica, which your representative quickly suggested when he learnt that Daniel was a geologist.
We are so happy we chose Slovenia and riding with you guys, this is a trip we will always remember dearly.
