New tour: Sedona to Grand Canyon self-guided road cycling

cycling holidays in grand canyon

Sedona and the Grand Canyon are two of the most beautiful places in the world with so many options for adventure it is difficult to choose the best way to experience these spectacular spots. Not to worry, we live here and have chosen the very best rides for you to enjoy on our specially designed self-guided trip. Sedona has been certified as a Bronze Level Bike Friendly Community and in 2010, State Route 179 was widened to include median strips, bike lanes and roundabouts for safe riding on the road. ASK five people to sum up Sedona, and you’ll probably get five wildly different responses. Art lovers exclaim over the galleries specializing in Southwestern tableaus. Shopaholics rave about boutiques selling Western duds and American Indian jewelry. Pessimists rue the rash of T-shirt shops, while enlightenment-seekers wax spiritual about its “vortexes.” And outdoor enthusiasts rhapsodize about hiking among red rock spires and ancient Indian ruins. All of this is great news for visitors, who can sample it all — even a U.F.O.-viewing site — in a quirky city that some call the most beautiful place in the United States.

The road to the Grand Canyon travels north across a gently rising plateau that gives no hint at what is about to unfold. You wonder if you have made a wrong turn. All at once an immense gorge a mile deep and up to 18 miles wide opens up. The scale is so vast that even from the best vantage point only a fraction of the canyon’s 277 miles can be seen. Nearly five million people travel here each year; 90 percent first see the canyon from the South Rim with its dramatic views into the deep inner gorge of the Colorado River. So many feet have stepped cautiously to the edge of major overlooks that in places the rock has been polished smooth.

Available May 1-October 1. This program is SELF GUIDED and is available in Summer only or according to weather and park access. We also offer a Scottsdale road cycling adventure in winter time and can customize Sedona only to any time of the year. This trip can also be made guided at any time.

Pure Adventutres’ Sedona to Grand Canyon self guided road cycling trip is rated for fit cyclists and covers 16 to 55 miles per day. Starting at USD$995, cyclists can bring their own bikes or rent one from our fleet of road bikes. Make this self-guided holiday the ultimate vacation package and add on optional hiking, mountain biking, added stops and national park visits.
