The sport offers the same basic form of exercise as road running, with the benefit of more natural and tranquil scenery. Many trail...

We have just returned from our wonderful bike trip to Holland! We loved everything – the tour started in Abcoude and we did a loop from there to Leiden, then to Gouda, Ultrecht and back to Abcoude. Each hotel was charming and in a good location for the attractions. The people we met along the...

Walking vs. Hiking: Setting out on Foot in the UK

If you’re a bit of an Anglophile, you’re probably prepared for the most common UK terms that cause confusion to the North American speaker – across the pond chips are crisps, an aubergine is an eggplant, and pants are underwear. Many of the differences are small, charming, and create a real sense of place for...

In the Footsteps of Saint Patrick

In the week leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, it can be hard to find a pub that doesn’t have a shamrock or two hanging in the window. Outside of Ireland, though, there’s a good chance St. Paddy’s revellers won’t know much about the figure they’re toasting. March 17 has evolved into a celebration of...
